About Purple Arbour

My first garden when I was very young was a small patch in the garden to grow some seeds. At boarding school we were allowed small plots of ground and I grew enough lettuces to feed the whole of my school house (about 70 pupils).

Vanessa Foster CrouchI went to University of East Anglia where I gained a degree in Fine Arts and as part of my course I studied the development of landscape design in the Eighteenth and Nineteenth centuries.

Over the years I have created several gardens for myself and these have given me the opportunity to trial many different plants, shrubs and trees so that I have a wide personal knowledge of what grows best in a variety of soils.

Having designed gardens and planting schemes for friends and family for 20 years, I decided to formalise my passion for garden design and set up Purple Arbour in 2006.

Purple Arbour is not just a garden design company. I quickly realised that I wanted a strong team of experts to assist me in creating schemes that would also be properly maintained.

I now have a close network of professionals who are skilled in all aspects of garden design and maintenance including: landscape architects, tree surgeons, pond and water feature specialists, paving, brickwork and drive hard landscapers, fencing, pergola and trellis experts, as well as gardeners and horticulturalists.

We can create a new garden, or renovate all or part of an existing site and provide year-round professional maintenance.  You decide what you need.
