What to expect from a garden designer?

When we at Purple Arbour are asked to design a garden this is what you can expect:
First we come to discuss your project for free.  This first visit will take about 1½ hours.  You tell me what you want, what you like, what you dislike, what colours, styles and ideas you want included and a budget estimate.  I listen, take rough measurements, show you ideas, listen to your feedback and give you an indication of cost.  You decide if you want us to give you a design, planting scheme or other work (for example on a mature garden we might offer: clearance, tree surgery, pond maintenance or remedial pruning without having to produce a design brief)
I return with a design or planting plan which we discuss to make sure it meets your requirements.

Once this is agreed, we arrange dates to do

  • Clearance,

  • Hard landscaping,

  • Planting

Is your garden an investment?

Many buyers prefer a more spacious garden to an extra bedroom or bathroom.  Improving your garden is one of the top 4 ways to increase the value of your home according to the Chief Executive of The National Association of Estate Agents (NAEA).  It can add 5% to 10% to the value of your property.

Buyers look for easy maintenance, colourful shrubs and well kept lawns.  There are several plants and trees to avoid if you want keep the value of your property.  Guess which is the Number One hate?  Leylandii, followed by Pampas Grass and ivy.  Surprisingly, buyers don’t like roses – because they worry about pruning them.  They do like paved areas – somewhere sunny and inviting to sit.

Why use a designer?

A good designer can save you money!  Planning it first with drawings shows you how it will look and takes away the guesswork.  Using my knowledge of plants, construction materials and design, I can turn your ideas into a dream garden and keep to your budget.
